University of British Columbia
The University of British Columbia, commonly referred to as UBC, is a Canadian
public research university with campuses in the Greater Vancouver area and in
Kelowna, British Columbia. The 402-hectare (993-acre) main campus in the Greater
Vancouver area is located in the University Endowment Lands on Point Grey, a
peninsula about 10 km from downtown Vancouver, with smaller speciality and
satellite campuses located at Great Northern Way and Robson Street, both in
Vancouver proper. The 105-hectare (259-acre) Okanagan campus is situated about
20 minutes from downtown Kelowna. While the originating legislation created UBC
on March 7, 1908, the first day of lectures was September 30, 1915. On September

are the University Act and the University Amendment Act, 2004.
The university is the oldest in British Columbia and has the largest enrolment
with over 41,000 students at its Vancouver and Okanagan campuses combined.
In the 2009 Academic Ranking of World Universities, UBC placed 2nd in Canada,
and 36th in the world. In 2006, Newsweek magazine ranked UBC 2nd in Canada and
31st in the world. In 2009, the THE-QS World University Rankings (From 2010 two
separate rankings will be produced by the Times Higher Education World
University Rankings and the QS World University Rankings) ranked UBC as 2nd in
Canada and 40th in the world (Social Sciences 13th, Life & Biomedicine 16th,
Natural Sciences 20th, Arts & Humanities 22nd, Engineering & IT 17th). In 2010,
QS World University Rankings placed the university at 44th, dropping three
places but staying 2nd highest ranked in Canada (in 2010 Times Higher Education
World University Rankings and QS World University Rankings parted ways to
produce separate rankings). In the same year, Webometrics Ranking of World's
Universities placed UBC 2nd in Canada and 35th in the world.

Vancouver International Airport
Vancouver International Airport (IATA: YVR, ICAO: CYVR) is located on Sea Island
in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, about 12 km (7.5 mi) from Downtown
Vancouver. In 2009 it was the second busiest airport in Canada by aircraft
movements (313,984) and passengers (16.1 million), behind Toronto Pearson
International Airport, with non-stop flights daily to Asia, Europe, Oceania, the
United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and other airports within Canada. The
airport has won several notable international best airport awards; it won the
Skytrax Best North American Airport award in 2010, the second time it has
received the honour (the first was in 2007). YVR also retains the distinction of
Best Canadian Airport in the regional results. It is a hub for Air Canada, Air
Canada Jazz and Air Transat as well as a focus city for WestJet. Vancouver
International Airport is one of eight Canadian Airports that have US Border
Preclearance facilities. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has been named,
"The Best Airport in North America".
Vancouver International Airport is owned by Transport Canada and is managed by
Vancouver International Airport Authority, which also manages other airports
around the world through its Vancouver Airport Services subsidiary.

Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is a major ski resort located 125 km north of Vancouver, in
British Columbia, Canada. By many measures it is the largest ski resort in North
America; it is 50% larger than its nearest competitor in terms of size, has the
greatest uphill lift capacity, and until 2009, had the highest vertical skiable
distance by a wide margin. Whistler Blackcomb also features the Peak 2 Peak
Gondola for moving between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains at the top; Peak 2
Peak holds records for the highest and longest unsupported cable car span in the
world. With all of this capacity, Whistler Blackcomb is also often the
most-visited ski resort, often besting 2 million visitors a year.
